API keys are issued by InStockRx staff — there is no self-service signup. Email info@instockrx.com and we’ll set you up.

What to include

Sending all of this in the first email means we can issue your key without a round trip.

Copy this into your email

Subject: API access request — <your company>
  • Company name and a one-line description of what you’re building
  • Environmentsandbox to start, production when you’re ready
  • Group — the name of your existing InStockRx group, or a note that you need one created
  • Pharmacy NPIs you expect to act on behalf of
  • Technical contact — name and email for whoever will hold the key

How keys work

Your key is bound to a group — a set of pharmacies you’re authorised to act for. It authenticates every request, and it determines which pharmacies you can name. See Groups and pharmacies for how that relationship works.
Keys are per environment. A sandbox key does not work against production, and a production key does not work against the sandbox. Ask for each one separately.
If your pharmacies are already on the InStockRx platform, an existing production key may also be visible on the My Groups page inside the platform. That route doesn’t apply to the sandbox, where you won’t have an account — email us instead.

Once you have a key

Head to the quickstart. Store the key as a secret; it grants access to act on behalf of every pharmacy in your group. If you believe a key has been exposed, email us and we’ll rotate it.
